The 13th Annual Regular Expression Day - June 1st 2020

By on

Holy cow! I can't believe it's already Regular Expression Day 2020!! Has it already been 13-years since we decided to start celebrating the overwhelming, awe-inspiring power of String-based pattern matching?! These little modern marvels of computer programming never get old - always a thrill, always coming through with a solution to our problems.

NOTE: If you are already completely lost and have no idea what I'm talking about, please checkout my video and slide presentation - Regular Expressions, Extraordinary Power. They will blow your mind and change your world forever.

Between work, Coronavirus, and general world chaos, I didn't do anything for this year's RegEx day. I will only say that learning Regular Expressions has been one of the most worthwhile activities in my career. I kid-you-not when I say that I use Regular Expressions every single day! Sure, 90% of that is the Find-And-Replace feature of my SublimeText IDE; but, dang-it if it doesn't pay dividends over and over and over again.

Bane: startsWith, indexOf, includes - powerful agents to the uninitiated. But, we are initiated, aren't we? Masters of RegEx pattern matching!

The best time to learn Regular Expressions was 20-years ago. The next best time is today! It's not too late. Make the decision today to embrace pattern matching as the incredibly powerful tool that it is. It will be a decision changes your life forever.

You hit upon a classic off-by-one error:

Has it already been 13-years since we decided to start celebrating ....

Since the 2nd annual would be only one year since you started, the 13th annual is only 12 years afterwards.

I believe in love. I believe in compassion. I believe in human rights. I believe that we can afford to give more of these gifts to the world around us because it costs us nothing to be decent and kind and understanding. And, I want you to know that when you land on this site, you are accepted for who you are, no matter how you identify, what truths you live, or whatever kind of goofy shit makes you feel alive! Rock on with your bad self!
