Happy Festivus, dear readers! Welcome to our last Working Code episode of 2022! Closing out "No Effort December", we truly run the gamut this time: I talk about the crippling attachment I have to my own fingers (and why I won't put my hands anywhere near a spinning saw blade); Adam talks about how excited he is for the v1.0 release of Svelte Kit; and, Tim reflects on the blinding speed with which people seem to be making science and technology breakthroughs - I mean, we're talking some serious Sci-Fi-level stuff here!

All that and more on this week's show:

... featuring these beautiful, beautiful people:

@Ben,

Re: Hotwire: Adobe Spry has a similar feature where you'd specify a URL and way to identify a table, you'd then be able to work with the data from that other page. The following seems to be what I think I'm referring to:
https://opensource.adobe.com/Spry/articles/html_dataset/index.html

I'm pretty sure that Dreamweaver had interface elements that allowed you to link out to the data source file, and then work with the data within the page you were editing.

RE: Table saws - there are some companies selling circular saws in a table that can sense when flesh has come into contact and it immediately stops causing at worst a tiny cut. Here's a video of one such device:

@Danilo,

I've seen that (similar) hotdog demo before - it's pretty mind-blowing at how fast it works! 😱 Something like that would make me feel more comfortable for sure! But, seems like I'd still want to baby-step towards a big saw like that.

Re: Spry, I'm pretty sure Ray Camden went through a big Spry phase some years back, when he was doing more ColdFusion-oriented work. And, the other day, I heard Mark Takata (current ColdFusion evangelist) talking about something called HTMX, which seems to be a similar kind of idea (enhancing the HTML to make AJAX'y kinds of interactions).

Right now, on holiday, I'm trying to build-up a simple ColdFusion site that I'd like to try enhancing with Hotwire (or something similar). Maybe it's one of those things where I can try to use different technologies to see how it works ... but, let me not get ahead of myself - I haven't even finished the "service layer" for the CFML app 😆

I believe in love. I believe in compassion. I believe in human rights. I believe that we can afford to give more of these gifts to the world around us because it costs us nothing to be decent and kind and understanding. And, I want you to know that when you land on this site, you are accepted for who you are, no matter how you identify, what truths you live, or whatever kind of goofy shit makes you feel alive! Rock on with your bad self!
