  • Christian Bale Goes Ballistic On Terminator Salvation Set - A Good Sign!

Posted on Feb 6, 2009 at 9:51 AM

FWIW, my understanding is that the DP had a reputation for walking on st to adjust lights, etc. during rehearsals, which is a no-no. Rehearsals, light adjustments, framing etc., are generally done separately but this DP allegedly didn't respect that etiquette. What I am curious about is where was ... read more »

  • Gert Franz - Railo U.S. Tour At The New York ColdFusion User Group

Posted on Aug 13, 2008 at 9:08 AM

Gert is going to be making a second US Tour in November to promote the release of Railo 3.1 Open Source. If I recall correctly, some of the things to look forward to in 3.1 OS is that there will be one distribution (e.g,. no enterprise, etc.) of the core product and then you buy extensions for thin... read more »

  • CFUNITED 2008 - So Many Great People

Posted on Jun 23, 2008 at 11:13 AM

Ben, It was great to see you again at CFUnited. Sorry I couldn't stay for the entire conference, but dropping in and seeing everyone felt like catching up with the CF "family". I really like the photos. It reminds us that conferences are nothing without the people that run and attend them alike. ... read more »

  • Project HUGE: 100 Reps Of Leg Press

Posted on Dec 31, 2007 at 7:58 AM

I hadn't considered the benefits of taking a little break here and there. This holiday season has proven difficult to keep consistent. We have to travel a lot and the sleep schedule gets thrown off. Oh well, at least I'm off tomorrow and the gym is open. Yippie!!!... read more »

  • Kinky ColdFusion Calendar System Taking Shape

Posted on Aug 6, 2007 at 10:11 AM

@michael: At the risk of getting inside Ben's decision-making process, I'd suggest just using a simple hyperlink vs. an onclick event. After all, why introduce JS if you don't need it? Christian... read more »

  • ColdFusion Calendar Event Scripting (Inspired By Peter Bell)

Posted on Jul 30, 2007 at 2:54 PM

Ben, Very well-written and I like your approach. In the past, I've used an event table and a linked event date table. My thought at the time was that it would allow forward computability if I ever wanted to add recurring events. For example, suppose we want to schedule a weekly status meeting. ... read more »

  • Ignorance Rears Its Ugly Head Again

Posted on Jul 13, 2007 at 1:48 PM

@Ben, thanks for the h/t. As Mark Twain said, "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." Ah well, such is our fate for being a bunch of dying programmers :) @Sam, my take on it is that while CF isn't as common a language as JAVA, .NET, etc. you make a fai... read more »

  • XStandard v2.0 Available: The Best WYSIWYG Editor Just Keeps Getting Better

Posted on Jul 6, 2007 at 10:16 AM

@Tom, I completely empathize with your frustration of having to pay for something when there are so many good alternatives available for free. FCKeditor is an example of a very good editor with loads of features and a huge development user support base. That being said, most editors like FCKedito... read more »

  • XStandard v2.0 Available: The Best WYSIWYG Editor Just Keeps Getting Better

Posted on Jul 5, 2007 at 4:31 PM

This is great news. I've been looking forward to trying this out for a long time. As much as I like FCKeditor and appreciate Adobe's efforts to include it in CF8, I think XStandard still does a better job and generating semantic, valid code. Thanks for passing on the news, sir!... read more »

Ben, it was great to finally get a chance to meet you and talk with you for the CFUnited podcast. @Peter, always a pleasure to talk with you and get a first-hand explanation of code/application generation. CFUnited 07 was great and for me perhaps the most enjoyable yet. You both exude a contagiou... read more »

  • Sending Text Messages (SMS) With ColdFusion And CFMail

Posted on May 9, 2007 at 1:04 PM

Not a problem. I'm actually in the middle of building an SMS-sender application myself. Originally, we started with just an e-mail list but it just got to be too hard to keep the messages small enough. Now along comes you and you've written half the app for me so this was the least I could do :)... read more »

  • Sending Text Messages (SMS) With ColdFusion And CFMail

Posted on May 9, 2007 at 12:46 PM

Take a look at http://www.livejournal.com/tools/textmessage.bml?mode=details It lists *all* of the SMS carriers and their message restrictions. Basically, most carriers specify an upper limit for the entire message and a sub-limit on the "from" field. So, for the example of Verizon Wireless, it... read more »

  • Sending Text Messages (SMS) With ColdFusion And CFMail

Posted on May 9, 2007 at 12:17 PM

Great article, Ben. One thing that is important to note is that the various carriers place limits on the number of characters that could be in the text message. For example, Verizon Wireless restricts the length of the message to144 characters. To make matters more confusing, the different carrie... read more »

I believe in love. I believe in compassion. I believe in human rights. I believe that we can afford to give more of these gifts to the world around us because it costs us nothing to be decent and kind and understanding. And, I want you to know that when you land on this site, you are accepted for who you are, no matter how you identify, what truths you live, or whatever kind of goofy shit makes you feel alive! Rock on with your bad self!
