  • Thoughts About Salaries And Raises As Motivated By Daniel Pink's Book, Drive

Posted on Jan 14, 2010 at 9:43 AM

Compensation, motivation and retention are ideas I have contemplated quite a bit lately both as an employee and in plans to be an employer. Salary is important, but I think that one can get out of a death spiral of increase and want by providing a competitive base and then work on improving lifesty... read more »

  • NYC + Snow + ColdFusion + jQuery = Winter Wonderland

Posted on Dec 21, 2009 at 9:03 AM

Floridians do have it tough; every year we have to bear the influx of global climate change refugees ... er, snowbirds. That said, I'm happy to have a chance to fetch my winter man card with a visit to Canada over the holidays. Nothing like playing in the white stuff to make you appreciate sunshine... read more »

@Ben, You asked about nootropics. I first learned about them from a Reader's Digest article a few years back. As I recollect, the author was interviewing subjects of a test (not sure if it was part of actual clinical trials for an FDA certification process) on some particular pharmaceutical's eff... read more »

In addition to the caffeine, it also features beaucoup B12 and lots of Vitamin C - of... read more »

Umm, as I read all the way through your post, I can't help but think that your wrist pain isn't a terribly vexing mystery. Sometimes it's good to take a problem into your own hands; sometimes it's better to get the help of others. (mind you, not knocking your blog adornments, but they might be lea... read more »

  • Ask Ben: Creating A Fixed-Field-Width Data File With ColdFusion

Posted on Dec 5, 2008 at 12:38 PM

@Ben, I guess I was a bit tired and didn't articulate my thought well; my bad. What I meant was that for the display in your blog post, if you used a monospaced font, it would better convey that everything was equal in character count. Of course, you still need the dots, but your columns would li... read more »

  • Ask Ben: Creating A Fixed-Field-Width Data File With ColdFusion

You can workaround your lack of pre in this case by specifying a fixed-width/monospaced font. Set the font-family to something like "Courier, monospace" - the W3C has a decent page on it: http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/007/fonts I'm really partial to the Proggy Fonts ( http://www.proggyfonts.... read more »
