Why NULL Values Should Not Be Used in a Database Unless Required

Storing a NULL value should save space over storing a string of zero length. I am not completely sure as to how much space will be saved, but in my database program I am trying to use null values instead of strings of length 0 to save space, and cause null pointer exceptions if data is read from... read more »
