  • Hal Helms On Object Oriented Programming - Day Five

Posted on Oct 25, 2008 at 12:43 PM

I know I read this somewhere and I think it says it very well. A service layer is a controller for the model while your other controller is really the controller for the UI. I could have this wrong but for me this makes sense. I now have a consistent API to my model from my service layer. Now I wo... read more »

  • Content Is Not Allowed In Prolog - ColdFusion XML And The Byte-Order-Mark (BOM)

Posted on Jul 25, 2008 at 12:58 PM

Believe it or not I finally got this error! I applied the fix provided by one of the comments. I replace the first character or two if the match is met that the first character is chr(65279). Since you had the issue with Authorize.NET I think its just in general a .NET issue. Here at my job we build... read more »

  • OOPhoto - Starting Off Procedural Then Moving To Object Oriented

Ben, this is great! I'm glad you have decided to go this route as I think it will be easier now for you to make the jump piece by piece. It can really be overwhelming at first. It was the same for me. It might all make sense in your mind but once you are getting your hands dirty you don't know where... read more »

No problem man! You did the hard part though! Working up the effort to write all that code. :) Did a good old copy and paste on our DEV server which runs CF8 (my local runs the latest 8.0.1) so figured I'd help out. Glad to do my part!... read more »

Thilo, This error also occurs on CF8 version: 8,0,0,176276. I ran Ben's sample code and got the same "Content Is Not Allowed In Prolog" error. I also tried his sample on outputting the first few char codes and I got the same output. Hope this helps.... read more »

  • Initial Thoughts On POI Utility ColdFusion Custom Tag Output

Posted on Mar 14, 2008 at 12:04 AM

I'm afraid soon I will have to give up the POI Utility on a project at work. Unfortunately, we have reached the limit since we need access to generating larger excel files. Our client loves excel. :) So we need support for XLSX. Either way my experience working with your POI Utility has been great B... read more »

  • What Does It Mean To Be A CSS Class?

Posted on Feb 13, 2008 at 11:30 AM

@Ben I'm glad it has. Honestly, I've run out of ideas and I've gotten so much inspiration from Flex. Although now I'm doing Flex work I have to get back into the swing of things CSS wise. If you will be blogging more about this I'll have a lot of interest! So keep it up! @Patrick/Ben Yeah unfortu... read more »

  • What Does It Mean To Be A CSS Class?

Posted on Feb 13, 2008 at 12:35 AM

Ah so showing you my CSS Framework has brought this? Well done! A lot of people don't give classes enough credit if you ask me. Libraries like jQuery simply make this type of development fun! Glad you are getting into this area as its something I've been dealing with since last year. One of my fell... read more »

  • Print CSS vs. Printer Friendly Format

Posted on Dec 30, 2007 at 1:25 AM

Well said Adrian. I agree. Do note that in "Print Preview" any print CSS media you have defined will render there. It's how I test out my print CSS but I'll at least do one print out to make sure everything is good.... read more »

Excellent work Ben! Now I can invite you and we can work together in jQuery and CF and we won't have to deal with your pathetic "god I'm so tired" attitude. :) Great post by the way! If you need to see a data dump logged I suggest using the format and output attributes of cfdump! Logs are great but usually whenever I debug something I prefer cfdumps since I can see any sort of complex data. I know this isn't really about debugging but since cflog was mentioned I just thought I'd... read more »
