@roger v - Yes it's Excel 2010. Thanks for the explanation. Does anyone know if you can apply more than one style to a cell? For example, I have a style called "header" that makes the text bold. I am trying to save the excel file instead of streaming it to the browser. The file gets created fine but when I open it, it says that it is locked for editing by 'another user.' Then it gives me the options to open it Read-Only or be Notified when the document is no longer in use. Does anyone k... read more »

Hi, thanks for the article. I'm using Excel 2007 and when I try giving the file an xml extension, it automatically appends .xls (so it becomes basic.xml.XLS) This causes Excel to display the message "the file you are trying to open is in a different format than specified by the file extension."
