Google AdSense, Adult Sites, And Huge Ass

Posted June 19, 2007 at 1:06 PM

Most of the incoming searches to my site are technical, but according to Google Analytics, one of the most popular incoming searches are for the phrase:

Huge Ass

I think this is hilarious as like 98% of my content is of a technical nature and I think I have like only one or two posts that have the words Huge and Ass in the same blog entry. Yet, somehow, that is how people consistently find my site. In fact, I think the only higher ranking incoming phrase is for Javascript string replace.

Out of curiosity, I went to take a look at Google's AdWords keyword selection tool and I put in the phrase Huge Ass just to see what comes up. Well, the bidding competition on that keyword phrase is completely maxed out. People must be paying big bucks for Huge Ass. But here's what I don't understand - if you look in the Google Analytics terms of service, AdSense is not allowed on sites that contain pornography or what they fuzzily refer to as mature content. So, what are these AdWords people bidding on?

I wish there was a way to see what Ads people were clicking on when they left my site. Of course, that kind of information is, from what I know about AdSense, strictly the property of Google.

Google doesn't require that your page have those keywords on them. They will assign the keyword to your page/site if you have enough inbound links with that as the title. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_bomb

I swear it wasn't me.... honest!

@Dustin,

That's interesting to know. Now, I am just curious as to know what ads are being served to these people.

I am guessing that it is the project huge category where you talk about your ass hurting. :-) Looks like just CF related ads.

More interesting tidbits:

http://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&q=site%3Abennadel.com+ass&btnG=Search
http://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&q=site%3Abennadel.com+huge&btnG=Search

Doesn't look like any inbound links though:

Yeah, I also see some ads pop up for Bally's Total Fitness. I guess that would make sense that fitness related companies are bidding on "huge ass" :)

Admin it, Ben...this post was just part of your ploy to get even *more* huge ass traffic, wasn't it? :-)

(FYI, this post has already made it to the top 10 Google results for the phrase.)

Ha ha ha. Awesome, number 4 for "Huge Ass". Although, if you look at the other results, I am not exactly competing with adult sites. The majority of the google results seem to be non-adult in nature. Either adult sites have atrocious SEO or google just doesn't put them up there too much.

Just have to make a comment on Huge Ass to increase the keyword density of this page. :)

So Ass Huge work just as well?

It's pretty hilarious to now see your site come up alongside ads for Butt Fetish Review, Big Wet Butts, and Butt to Mouth Videos. Nicely done, Ben. ;-)

And I bet this page gets a lot of "huge ass" traffic as well! Thanks for the info about the adsense program. I'm contemplating a website in the gray area and probably have to go with something other than adsense.

Like all big time networks online, the determination of what is in violation of their TOS is only up to them. There are adult sites online ( will not mention which ) that do have adult adsense from google posted, it's a real gray area and it's up to google on what is acceptable to them.
