Huge In A Hurry By Chad Waterbury
Posted: March 15, 2009 at 7:54 PM by Ben Nadel
I am a big fan of www.t-nation.com (Testosterone Nation) , and I have a lot of respect for the weight training and fitness content that they deliver, free of charge. So, when I saw that one of their authors, Chad Waterbury, was writing a book on the "new science" of strength training, I was definitely excited to get my copy. I got my order for "... read more »

Project HUGE: Success Strategy For Working Out When You're Tired
Posted: February 5, 2009 at 5:36 PM by Ben Nadel
Last night, I tried to do a "Pull" workout (a.k.a. Back). But, I was very tired having not slept well the night before and having not taken any caffeine pre-workout. Normally, I would pop one of the 5-Hour Energy shots on the way to the gym, but it was late and I didn't want to risk having another bad night of sleep. When I got the gym, I did a ... read more »

Project HUGE: My First Leg Workout After Active Release Technique (ART)
Posted: January 19, 2009 at 9:14 AM by Ben Nadel
I haven't worked out my legs since before my first Active Release Technique (ART) session with Dr. Christopher Anselmi here in NYC; I've wanted to let the muscles around my knee heal as much as possible while Dr. Anselmi worked away the knots and scar tissue. During last week's ART session, Dr. Anselmi gave me the go ahead to try a leg workout. ... read more »

Project HUGE: Active Release Technique (ART) With Dr. Christopher Anselmi In NYC
Posted: December 29, 2008 at 8:45 PM by Ben Nadel
About six or seven years ago, I experienced acute pain in my right knee while squatting on the Smith Machine in my college gym. Although there was no pain when I was standing, I could hardly walk up stairs or get out of bed without wincing; working out was out of the question. I gave it a few days to see if there was any improvement - there was no... read more »

Project HUGE: The Imaginary Fear Of Scheduling Mundane Tasks Such As Nutritional Intake
Posted: December 28, 2008 at 12:05 PM by Ben Nadel
For some reason, I have this completely imaginary fear surrounding the scheduling of mundane tasks. I have this made-up belief that certain things should just happen naturally - that I should just know how and when to get them done and that the very act of scheduling them is a symptom of some inherent fault in my personality. Imagine having to sch... read more »

Project HUGE: Adding Caffeine For Health And Performance Benefits
Posted: December 27, 2008 at 4:16 PM by Ben Nadel
I am not a coffee drinker. In the morning, I have a few cups of Genmaicha - a green tea with brown rice - that has about 80% less caffeine that brewed coffee. In short, I don't get a whole lot of caffeine in my daily routine. And for some reason, I have this imaginary belief that caffeine is not good for you. I have no facts to back up that beli... read more »

Project HUGE: My Recent Experience With Light Cardio Fitness
Posted: December 26, 2008 at 11:16 PM by Ben Nadel
I am not one who enjoys cardio. In my many years of gym experience, I have done very little cardio. And when I say "very little," it's only cause I am too timid to say, "none." However, about two months ago, my right-wrist pain came back a bit. I was so nervous about aggravating it that I stopped going to the gym. During this three week period of ... read more »

Project HUGE: Trying Out A 4-Exercise Limit
Posted: October 1, 2008 at 4:29 PM by Ben Nadel
When I was younger, the amount of time I spent in the gym was something like a badge of honor. If I told a fellow lifter that I just had a two hour workout blasting out 8 exercises, it was a statement met with a look of appreciation and the obligatory, "gym nod." But that was years ago when my body was a seething pot of testosterone fueled by long... read more »

A New Wrist Pain
Posted: August 18, 2008 at 8:25 AM by Ben Nadel
Around last December, I started to feel some pain in my lower, lateral palm, at the base of my thumb muscle. It wasn't very serious feeling and it would leave after I was done with my exercises. Over the last 8 months or so, it has come and gone with only a slight irritation. In retrospect, I should have probably looked into it, but I just blamed ... read more »

Muscle: Confessions Of An Unlikely Bodybuilder By Samuel Wilson Fussell
Posted: August 9, 2008 at 8:39 PM by Ben Nadel
I don't like to tell many people about this book. Not because it's bad, but because it's so awesome. By knowing about it, I somehow feel like I'm in a sort of secret club - a club whose only dues are the knowledge and appreciation of the book itself. It's a silly mindset to be in, I know, but one that I have a hard time shaking. Maybe it has somet... read more »

Ask Ben: How To Build A Home Gym
Posted: July 28, 2008 at 9:09 AM by Ben Nadel
I also like to go to the gym. But, I just got a .NET development contract that allows me to work at home full time. I am kicking around the the idea of putting some gym equipment in my basement so that I don't have to commute to the gym and can spend more time at home with my kids. I don't want to go crazy and spend a ton of money. just keep it si... read more »

If you have followed this blog for a while, you will know that I am a fitness enthusiast. I love going to the gym and moving around some heavy steel (or at least that is my intent). What you might not know is that for the longest time, I have been using an old-school 12-button phone user. I've never had a fancy phone - usually whatever the cheapes... read more »

Project HUGE: 100 Reps Of Leg Press
Posted: December 30, 2007 at 3:02 PM by Ben Nadel
Friday night, I went to the gym with my lifting partner to hit up a work out. It ended up that he worked out and I kind of just went through the motions. After having had my teeth cleaned earlier in the day (which is super stressful for me), I had tension pain in my neck and traps and my gums felt all irritated. As such, I couldn't seem to focus o... read more »
