Project HUGE: Active Release Technique (ART) With Dr. Christopher Anselmi In NYC

Posted: December 29, 2008 at 8:45 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Project HUGE

About six or seven years ago, I experienced acute pain in my right knee while squatting on the Smith Machine in my college gym. Although there was no pain when I was standing, I could hardly walk up stairs or get out of bed without wincing; working out was out of the question. I gave it a few days to see if there was any improvement - there was no... read more »

Project HUGE: The Imaginary Fear Of Scheduling Mundane Tasks Such As Nutritional Intake

Posted: December 28, 2008 at 12:05 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Life, Project HUGE

For some reason, I have this completely imaginary fear surrounding the scheduling of mundane tasks. I have this made-up belief that certain things should just happen naturally - that I should just know how and when to get them done and that the very act of scheduling them is a symptom of some inherent fault in my personality. Imagine having to sch... read more »

Project HUGE: Adding Caffeine For Health And Performance Benefits

Posted: December 27, 2008 at 4:16 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Project HUGE

I am not a coffee drinker. In the morning, I have a few cups of Genmaicha - a green tea with brown rice - that has about 80% less caffeine that brewed coffee. In short, I don't get a whole lot of caffeine in my daily routine. And for some reason, I have this imaginary belief that caffeine is not good for you. I have no facts to back up that beli... read more »

Project HUGE: My Recent Experience With Light Cardio Fitness

Posted: December 26, 2008 at 11:16 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Project HUGE

I am not one who enjoys cardio. In my many years of gym experience, I have done very little cardio. And when I say "very little," it's only cause I am too timid to say, "none." However, about two months ago, my right-wrist pain came back a bit. I was so nervous about aggravating it that I stopped going to the gym. During this three week period of ... read more »

Project HUGE: Trying Out A 4-Exercise Limit

Posted: October 1, 2008 at 4:29 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Project HUGE

When I was younger, the amount of time I spent in the gym was something like a badge of honor. If I told a fellow lifter that I just had a two hour workout blasting out 8 exercises, it was a statement met with a look of appreciation and the obligatory, "gym nod." But that was years ago when my body was a seething pot of testosterone fueled by long... read more »

Project HUGE: WTF, Waist Line, And Money

Posted: September 16, 2008 at 9:56 AM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Project HUGE

It's been a long time since I've written anything for Project HUGE. And frankly, that pretty much mirrors my recent dedication to it. For the last few months I have been dealing with a scary wrist pain and a hectic job. At the end of the day, my wrist hurts and I've been just too tired to care. In the past month, I think I've worked out like three... read more »

Project HUGE: 100 Reps Of Leg Press

Posted: December 30, 2007 at 3:02 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Project HUGE

Friday night, I went to the gym with my lifting partner to hit up a work out. It ended up that he worked out and I kind of just went through the motions. After having had my teeth cleaned earlier in the day (which is super stressful for me), I had tension pain in my neck and traps and my gums felt all irritated. As such, I couldn't seem to focus o... read more »

Novedex XT Testosterone Booster And Anti-Aromatase

Posted: December 24, 2007 at 11:31 AM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Project HUGE

I recently finished my first bottle of Novedex XT by Gaspari Nutrition . As I have been hitting the gym hard lately, I figured I would try to maximize the effort by adding some new supplementation to the mix. Novedex XT is advertised as working on two different fronts; on one hand, it increases the body's natural Testosterone levels; then, on oth... read more »

Project HUGE: Welcome Back To .... Initiation

For the first time in years, I have been working out with a partner and I can't tell you how much of a difference it makes. The requirement to be a the gym at a given time; the requirement of sticking to a schedule; the understanding that if you don't put in the effort, someone else is going to call you out on it. It's been pretty awesome. It took... read more »

Do You Have A Permit For Those Guns?

Posted: December 14, 2007 at 8:18 AM by Ben Nadel

Sorry I was late getting to the gym, but I had to stop off and pick up my permit. Permit for what? For these guns!!!: Anyone who has spent any time in the gym has probably heard a hundred different references to the "Guns". Guns, are of course, your arms. Sometimes referred to... read more »

Project HUGE: A Bad Week In Eating

Posted: September 23, 2007 at 2:43 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Project HUGE

This was not a good week of eating for me. Last night, at the gym, the scale read 211 lbs. This is a 6 lb. jump from the 205 that it read a week prior. Now, I know that there is a day to day fluctuation in weight, but certainly, I can chalk this 6 lb. weight gain up to a week of poor choices. That's not fair; I shouldn't say "poor choices". Some ... read more »

Project HUGE: Max Squat Is Watching Over Me

Posted: September 15, 2007 at 9:57 AM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Project HUGE

I have been concentrating on watching what I eat and dropping some weight lately. I got on the scale at the gym a few days ago and it read 205 lbs.. I haven't been that light since College, so things are going in the right direction. As I have discussed before, purposely losing weight has been a hard task for me not only physically but especially... read more »

Project HUGE: Why I Can't Stop Thinking About Lydia Cheng's Daughter

Posted: July 23, 2007 at 2:59 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Life, Project HUGE

I posted last week about my exciting encounter with Lydia Cheng's (from Pumping Iron II) daughter . Well, since then, I have not been able to get it out of my head. At first, I thought it was just the enjoyment of having talked to a very attractive woman. But when something like that happens, the joy and excitement only last for a few hours befor... read more »

Yesterday, my friend and I got on the 1/9 train going downtown and sat across from this girl who was a total cutie! I of course kept looking at her, cause, well, she was hot. I noticed that she would occasionally glance in my direction, which is always surprising cause people tend not to notice me. I was also a bit confused, cause I was like, this... read more »

Project HUGE: Physical Therapy For My Knees

Posted: April 24, 2007 at 4:19 PM by Ben Nadel

Tags: Health / Fitness, Project HUGE

I went to see my primary physician as well as my physical therapist (both of whom are part of the Sports Medicine office at Chelsea Piers ). The bad news: I have very tight hamstrings (I knew that), a tight TFA, a tight IT band, strength imbalances, weakness, pronating feet, and I am horribly out of shape (OK, I added that last one). The good new... read more »
