HostMySite.com Customer Care Rocks

By Ben Nadel on

So, I signed up for a HostMySite.com ColdFusion 8 account yesterday since my company probably won't upgrade our production servers for a long time. In one day, I am already quite impressed with the way they [hostmysite.com] handle themselves. The initial setup what a bit rocky - there were some file permissions issues - but these were taken care of quickly after I filed my trouble ticket. On top of that, Tim from HostMySite.com just called me ON THE PHONE to make sure everything was going well and that my ColdFusion 8 beta testing program was good and basically to see if there was anything more he could do for me.

Not only was it insanely cool for them to offer the FREE ColdFusion 8 beta testing accounts for anyone who wanted one, they also have kick ass customer care.

Yeah, those guys are great! I found them a few years back when I needed a host provider for a client of mine.

While I was researching providers, the person I got on the phone at HostMySite was very knowledgeable. Turned out that, via the sales number, I was speaking with the same set of techies that would help me with questions and support in the future. Very knowledgeable and friendly there!

So now, I also use their SmarterLinux product for my own personal sites. No CF there, but PHP and MySQL make this much cheaper--and with the same, rockin' support team!

I made the switch yeaterday too and the tech support folks were really helpful getting the issues I had straightened out, and so were the sales support helping me resolve a few billing problems. After 24 hours with them, I am really impressed with everything from the support down through all the stuff I can do through the control panel.

I use hostmysite.com as well. They offer great value and features (the free CF8 and IIS7 beta offers are awesome, although I haven't yet signed up for either), and I have to agree on their customer service, which is top-notch (I've been in contact with them over the phone, email, and live chat--all very prompt and helpful). For the first few months I was with them they had my CF/Linux shared account on a server which regularly had reliability problems, but once I complained, one of their tech-support guys told me very forthrightly that I was on their most troublesome CF server. Since changing servers (which was of course free), I haven't had any problems.

@Ben, yeah, my previous host's control panel was shameful, so really, anything more than a framed environment with a list of links on the left would have impressed me, ;)

I used HostMySite for several years and I agree - their customer service rocks. HOWEVER - I recently just switched and figured I would leave my 2 cents here as well. The reason I left? They overload their servers. At some points it would take my site 30 seconds to respond to the first hit - and it wasn't even hitting a database at that point. My clients were rather annoyed to say the least.

I setup a site24x7.com account to watch my server, and found that I only had an 89% uptime rate. At times my server was down for over 30 minutes. 89% is just not acceptable.

During this time, the support people were GREAT but they couldn't do anything about it, other than restart the CF service.

I had a reseller account with them, and when I talked to sales about perhaps getting a credit during a particularly bad month, I was turned away.

The next day I found a place where I could get a dedicated server for a great price with CF only a bit more - worth every penny to keep my clients happy.

Overall, I had a GREAT experience with HostMySite due to their customer service, but they need to not overload their servers so much.

Thanks for hearing me out.

Hi Ben, I truly believe you will be VERY pleased. We have had only great experiences. The button on Ben Forta's Web site led to a couple of HostMySite chat conversations and the migrating of about a dozen shared accounts, from one of our previous hosts to their CF Builder+ plans. Eventually we merged all plans to a HMS ColdFusion VPS+ plan. Recently we moved from that VPS to a HMS CF8 dedicated server (combining CF8 with a HMS dedicated server is like greasing that lightning bolt!).

They implemented SeeFusion, which cut down on shared-server downtime issues, about the time we moved to the VPS (which totally resolved downtime issues). Over the last 2 1/2 years, we have been nothing short of ecstatic with both their customer service and technical support. HOSTMYSITE ROCKS!! www.hostmysite.com/testimonials

@wwwcar

Our shared Linux servers do support Zend Optimizer. The loaders will have to be installed for you, but it can be done in a phone call or email.

Hope to hear from you!
