This last week, Ray Camden came to talk at our New York ColdFusion User Group about parsing and creating RSS feeds in ColdFusion 8. Unfortunately, we had horrible weather (for the second month in a row) especially for someone coming to us from the Big Easy. Ray gave a great presentation, and if you want to take a look at his sample code, it's available on the NYCFUG web site under Meeting Resources.

In addition to just saying, "thank you", to Ray, I also wanted to talk about enthusiasm. A few minutes into his presentation, Ray touched on some code that he had written for ColdFusionBloggers.org. At first, he started to say that he didn't want to jump ahead, and that he would cover it towards the end of the presentation; but, he could hardly contain himself. He was clearly very proud of the code and was totally jazzed to talk about it and to share his ideas and was definitely fighting the desire to go off-agenda. It was like watching someone try to describe the best movie they had ever seen but not ruin the ending for you.

It might sound cheesy, but it was very refreshing to see that kind of emotional attachment and enthusiasm for one's own work. I think it's all too rare to see programmers really pumped up about the stuff they do. So many of us punch it, complete our to-do lists, and check out. Ok, maybe that is an exaggeration (I hope), but the truth is, a lot of people lose the passion for this stuff and it was just really great to see Ray Camden, Mr. ColdFusion, still really loving to program this stuff after all the work he had done.

Truly an inspiration.

@Che,

We are not set up for that yet. The best I can do is give you the sample code which is on the http://www.nycfug.com website.
